Back in 2010, we started a Singapore outbound travel agency, Lokopoko Travel. We had a retail store in one of Singapore's trendiest malls, Raffles City Shopping Centre (City Hall). Partnering inbound operators from all over the world, we sell almost every destination and travel product to anyone in Singapore.
All was good but things were starting to change.
In 2011, Groupon entered Singapore and suddenly, the marketing game for travel agencies was shaken and shuffled. Lokopoko was Singapore's first travel agency to start the digital marketing revolution with Groupon. Whatever we tried to sell, it was selling like hotcakes.
On one hand, things were getting exponentially better but on the other, a decline was starting to show.
Fast forward to 2013-14, our retail store was gradually getting fewer walk-in clients each day. Finally, in early 2015 we decided to pull the plug and say goodbye to our retail store.
We moved to an office space and relied solely on our digital marketing channels to generate business for our travel agency. Having invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in various digital marketing channels over the years, we have significantly grown our competency to get online leads and bookings.
Without a retail store, our business was doing better than ever.
The New World
While we were doing fine, many outbound travel agencies in Singapore and in other countries were shutting down. Clients were flocking online but many of these agencies are not capturing them.
In 2016, the chain effect was beginning to emerge. Desperate calls were coming in from our inbound partners all over the region. Some were closing down and many were struggling because their outbound agents were not performing. Our inbound partners started asking us to help them get more customers directly from the various markets.
We decided to use our digital marketing expertise and help inbound agent partners get customers directly from their targeted countries. The move worked out big time for everyone!
Many of our inbound agent partners are now earning more than ever before. They no longer rely just on their B2B partners for business. They only need to work with 1 additional partner, us, to grow their business exponentially.
Now it’s not about how much business we can generate for them but how much they can handle! The sky is the limit because the world is our market!
